In Washington, District of Columbia, packaged alcoholic beverages may be sold between 7:00 a.m. and midnight, any day of the week.

Alcoholic beverages may be served in bars and restaurants between 8:00 a.m. and 2:00 a.m., Sunday through Thursday, and between 8:00 a.m. and 3:00 a.m., Friday and Saturday.

However, the following exceptions apply:

Holidays and Special Occasions. Alcoholic beverages may be served until 4:00 a.m. on the following nights:
  • Any federal or District of Columbia holiday
  • December 30, when it falls on a Saturday
  • December 31, when it falls on a Saturday or Sunday
  • January 2, when it falls on a Saturday or Sunday
  • January 3, when it falls on a Sunday
  • January 15 through January 21, in the year of a presidential inauguration
  • The Saturday and Sunday before Memorial Day
  • July 2, when it falls on a Saturday
  • July 3, when it falls on a Saturday or Sunday
  • July 5, when it falls on a Saturday or Sunday
  • July 6, when it falls on a Sunday
  • The Saturday and Sunday before Labor Day
